Nicole
I am married to an amazing woman, Nicole, who is my best friend and better half. Nicole is the reason I have this website as she thought it would be a good birthday gift to get me set up with a domain name and then turn me loose to design my own site - probably one of my favorite gifts ever. She also has her own baking blog, which I'd encourage you to check out and leave a comment or two.
In the beginning...
Nicole and I met when we were both students at the University of Georgia. Ironically, we didn't actually start spending time together while we were at UGA, but rather when we were both in Orlando. We were both doing summer projects with Campus Crusade for Christ in Orlando with Nicole working at Disney while I worked at Crusade's headquarters. I had just finished my freshman year at Georgia while Nicole had completed her sophomore year. We got to know each other while exploring random spots or Orlando and hanging out around Disney World. Our first few dates involved getting into the parks for free, walking around the different hotels, or catching one of the fireworks shows at night. That summer couldn't have been any better.
The engagement...
After dating for nearly two years while we were in school at UGA, I asked Nicole to marry me. I decided to propose at the spot where our relationship had started and where we first started to spend some quality time together - in Orlando, at Disney World. We were spending Spring Break in West Palm Beach at my grandparents' condo and went up to spend a day at the parks. Nicole had no idea but I had been planning for months to propose to her. After a day of experiencing all the rides and eating everything we could at the Magic Kingdom, I proposed to Nicole in front of the castle during Wishes, the fireworks show. Afterwards, people cheered and the scene was re-created for picture taking purposes. All part of the magic!
Happily ever after...
Our wedding was on April 25, 2009 and it took place in Athens, GA. We honeymooned at a Sandals Resort in Antigua and then began our life as newlyweds. Nicole was finishing a professional internship with Disney so I relocated to Florida after our wedding and we ended up living in Florida for almost two years - first in Orlando and then in West Palm Beach. After West Palm Beach, we spent six months overseas doing mission work in Europe and South Africa. When we returned to the United States, we somehow ended up back in my hometown of Roanoke, VA and we're still here. To be honest, I feel like the first three years of our marriage have contained more crazy experiences than many people have in the first 30 years of their marriages. There is always something coming up for us and I'm always excited to be able to experience that with Nicole. We keep saying one day we'll settle down and be normal. And maybe one day we will. But until then...laissez le bon temps rouler!
